We depart Cologne with the unique Coach of Excellence and head towards the Netherlands. On the way to Arnhem we will have a chance to watch some documentaries concerning the Battle of Arnhem on the multimedia system. When we get to the city we will pass the John Frost Bridge on the way to our first destination, the former headquarters of General Robert Urquhart. Just days before the landing attempt of the British, Field Marshal Model was using the very same premises as his headquarters. This museum will give you a perfect first insight look into Operation Market Garden. We will then continue to some of the drop zones such as Drop Zone Y in the Ginkelse Heide which has not changed much ever since. We will learn details of the British efforts inside the Osterbeek cauldron and the desperate attempts to reinforce the fighting men.
We will continue down to the river where heavy fighting was taking place near the old bridge of Osterbeek. We will then cross the river and make it to Driel, where the Polish Para Brigade tried to support the British in vain. We will then return to the city centre of Arnhem, where we will have a look at the situation at the John Frost Bridge. We will then return to Cologne.
