Thousands of workers and forced labour turned the quiet landscape of the Pas de Calais inside out. Until they were stopped by the Royal Air Force.Enjoy three days in the Pas de Calais and visit these incredible installations that were constructed to bombard England with the worlds`s most advanced weapons.
Historical background
Once the rockets and V 1 were manufactured in the "Mittelwerk" they were tranported by rail to the firing stations. Firing facilities were all built in Pas de Calais. At first, the idea was to launch the V1 missiles from open ramps aimed at London. But when these facilities were bombarded heavily by the RAF the plan had to be adjusted. Now a new plan came into life.In 1943 a huge bunker was built in Wizernes with the sole purpose of maintaining, fueling and firing the V2’s. A huge storage facility for the V2’s and another V1 firing facility was built a couple of miles away in Watten. The Todt Organization built an underground battery for the construction of high-pressure pump, the “Busy Lizzy”, in Mimoyeques. The Royal Air Force put an end to all of this doing before it could even begin. The Tallboy bombs wreaked such havoc and destruction that it was fully impossible to put any of these facilities into operation.
